Common Problems That Preventive Dentistry Can Solve

  • Tooth decay and cavities can be completely eliminated with preventive care.
  • Regular cleanings reduce your risk of periodontal (gum) disease.
  • Six-month cleanings help remove surface stains on your teeth and keep your smile bright.
  • Regular oral cancer screenings help give you peace of mind and catch potential signs of cancer early.

Teeth Cleanings, Oral Exams & X-Rays

Teeth cleanings and oral exams are essential, as they allow your dentist to track your oral health and identify potential problems that may need further treatment. First, you’ll get x-rays if they’re recommended by Dr. Bickel.

Then, one of our hygienists will scrape away plaque and tartar from your teeth, buff and polish them, then floss them to remove any remaining debris. Finally, Dr. Bickel will come and examine your mouth and x-rays to look for any potential signs of oral health problems. The entire process takes just 30-60 minutes, and gives you peace of mind!

The Benefits Of Six-Month Visits To Your Dentist

First, you’ll reduce your risk of cavities and gum disease. Dr. Bickel can catch signs of gum disease and tooth decay early, and recommend steps you can take to prevent further damage to your smile. If we do notice a serious issue, you’ll be able to get care right away, which will prevent further complications and save you time and money.

Finally and most importantly, six-month visits to the dentist give you peace of mind. You’ll know that your smile is healthy, and your teeth will look great after your appointment.

Oral Cancer Screenings

We offer oral cancer screenings as part of every six-month appointment at Redmond Art of Dentistry. Dr. Bickel will look for lesions, patches of discolored tissue, and other potential signs of cancer. If we do notice an issue that demands further attention, we can recommend the proper next steps to ensure you get the care you need right away.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride treatments consist of a fluoride-rich gel or paste, which Dr. Bickel will paint onto your teeth after a cleaning. This fluoride-rich compound helps attract minerals to your teeth and strengthens them, which can help prevent cavities and even reverse “soft spots” on your teeth which are the first stage of tooth decay.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are typically used to protect the rear teeth, as these are the most cavity-prone. They consist of a liquid dental resin, which is applied to the teeth and then hardened with a UV light. This creates a barrier that stops oral bacteria, acid, and food particles from contacting your enamel directly. In turn, this can prevent cavities in the treated teeth for up to 10 years.

Night Guards

Unconscious teeth grinding and clenching, known as bruxism, is a common issue that tends to happen at night while patients are asleep. However, night guards can help patients alleviate symptoms of bruxism by creating a barrier between their teeth that protects them from grinding-related damage. Depending on the severity of the case, night guards can be made from several different materials with varying degrees of softness.

Sports Guards

Sports guards are worn over the teeth and are specifically designed to protect your mouth from oral trauma caused by high-impact sports. Many sports put players at risk for dental injuries caused by collisions to the mouth, face, or head, but a custom-fitted sports guard can help protect you from chipping, cracking, or knocking out a tooth. Tailored to fit your unique smile, sports guards are both comfortable and durable, so you can play the sports you love without missing a beat.
